DAY 1: AIRPORT – NEGOMBO

Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport and after collecting your baggage, you will be met and greeted by the company representative and transferred to Negombo.

Check in at the hotel and relax.

DAY 2: NEGOMBO – DAMBULLA (B,D)

After breakfast, proceed to Dambulla. Upon arrival in Dambulla, visit the cave temples before checking in to your hotel.

In the city of Dambulla lies a site that has been treasured by many kings since the 1st century B.C. Today, one of Sri Lanka’s iconic landmarks, the Dambulla Rock Temple, houses some of the country’s most unique paintings within five magnificently constructed cave temples, located near the Golden Temple of Dambulla. Observe the exquisite cave paintings along the walls that shelter 150 statues of Lord Buddha. As you enter the retreat, look up at the gigantic Buddha statue glittering in gold over an area that now houses an important junction in the country’s economic and cultural development.

Upon completion, check in to your hotel.

Overnight stay at Amaya Lake or a similar stand

DAY 3: DAMBULLA - SIGIRIYA – MINNERIYA – DAMBULLA (B,D)

After an early breakfast at the hotel, visit the World Heritage-listed Sigiriya Fortress and climb the rock.

The 5th-century rock citadel of King Kasyapa and World Heritage Site, Sigiriya, not only boasts ancient Sri Lankan engineering and urban planning excellence but is also acclaimed as one of the finest monuments of art and culture. Step through the gigantic Lion Paws, overlooking the symmetrical royal gardens below, to comprehend the absolute splendour that once dominated this rock fortress. Surrounded by ramparts and moats, the Lion Rock, resembling the mythological City of Gods, is adorned with frescoes related to the Gupta-style paintings found in the Ajanta caves of India. Walk in the shade of the famous Mirror Wall on the western face of Sigiriya, an artistic hundred-metre stretch covered with ancient graffiti. Wander through the well-curated museum downstairs for an epic journey into the past and discover how the citadel rose above the surrounding landscape, with its castle, ponds, and irrigation systems that pumped water right to the summit through an ingenious hydraulic system, forming a colossal masterpiece of the great king that remained a wonder in Asia for centuries.

Upon completion, return to your hotel.

Later in the afternoon, embark on a game drive at Minneriya National Park.

If you’re up for a serious rumble in the jungle, then Minneriya is your colosseum. Spreading over 8,800 hectares, this sanctuary is famous for elephants. Minneriya is home to herds of deer and abundant birdlife, but its spotlight remains on the swaying trunks and flapping ears of its elephants. Park your jeep on the bank of the reservoir and switch off the engine. Watch carefully as herds of elephants, one by one, make their way to the grass-covered banks to feed on tender shoots. In fact, this is the largest elephant gathering in the world, with more than 300 elephants at a time, making the park a magnet for wildlife enthusiasts across the globe.

Thereafter, return to the hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Overnight stay at Amaya Lake or a similar standard.

DAY 4: DAMBULLA – HIRIWADUNA – PASSIKUDAH (B,L,D)

After breakfast, proceed to Hiriwaduna in the late morning to enjoy a village walk, ending your session with an authentic Sri Lankan village lunch.

The trek begins with a scenic walk along the bund of a wewa (man-made reservoir). The amazing birdlife, butterflies, and possible sightings of crocodiles add to the charm of the trek. Observe the villagers as they go about their early morning tasks, such as fishing or washing clothes at the edge of the lake. Initially, you will wade through a shallow stream and then cross a wider tributary in the catamaran of an obliging farmer to inspect chena cultivation (slashand-burn agriculture). Enjoy the farmer’s humble hospitality. With the guidance of the farmer, pick fresh vegetables from the plot and join in preparing a simple meal using traditional methods, earthenware pots, and firewood as fuel. This is a great opportunity to sample authentic local cuisine. The journey continues through dense shrub forests, home to many forest birds and other wildlife, including monkeys, bears, pythons, and even elephants.

Upon completion, proceed to Passikudah and check in to your hotel.

Overnight stay at Amaya Beach or a similar standard.

DAY 5: PASSIKUDAH (B,D)

After breakfast, spend the rest of the day at your own pace.

Passikudah Beach is a slice of tropical serenity, famous for its shallow, crystal-clear waters that stretch far into the horizon. Perfect for a relaxing dip or a peaceful stroll, it is where calm seas and golden sands create the ultimate laidback beach escape.

Walk through this 147-acre garden, passing well-tended lawns, pavilions, and an octagonal conservatory, before being greeted by the vast expanse of magnificently landscaped lush green turf, perfect for an exhilarating break.

Towards the north of the entrance is a cafeteria, which you may come across before stepping into some of the highlights of this place, such as the orchid house and the giant Javan fig tree, both of which overflow with grace.

Later in the afternoon, enjoy a city tour in Kandy.

Last ruled by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe before it was brought under British rule in 1815, Kandy, a World Heritage Site and the last royal capital of Sri Lankan kings, offers visitors a rich blend of culture, history, and heritage. A stroll through this small lakeside town, cradled among misty hills, will feature the Kandy City Centre, which is filled with the latest world-class brands, a bazaar, an arts and crafts centre, as well as a gem museum and lapidary. Take in the colour as you glide through the fresh fruits and vegetables of the Kandy market. Fine-tune your evening by stepping to the beat of traditional music and drumming at a cultural show that showcases the rich and vibrant culture of Sri Lanka, the Wonder of Asia.

DAY 8: KANDY - COLOMBO (B,D)

After an early breakfast, check out from your property and transfer to Colombo.

Upon arrival, enjoy a city tour in Colombo.

The throbbing metropolis of Colombo, located in the west, is not only the country’s commercial capital but also the engine that drives more than 50% of the national GDP, alongside Colombo’s impressive urban development efforts. Drive along the clean streets edging the crystal-white Race Course, a horse-racing hub in 1893 and a World War II airstrip, now furnished with lavish clothing, food, and tea boutiques.

Meanwhile, ride to Pettah and tune into the Floating Market, an offbeat shopping experience, or feel the buzz surrounding the upcoming Colombo Port City, an offshore city featuring parks, commercial complexes, and even an F1 track. Head along Bauddhaloka Mawatha towards Arcade Independence Square, facing the historic Independence Square. Designer boutiques, top-notch cuisine outlets, and even the walk-over fish tank have revamped this colonial masterpiece into one of the trendiest shopping and hangout zones in Sri Lanka. Have a chilled beer at the Dutch Hospital while gazing through fancy windows showcasing the best fashion, jewellery, and handicraft brands.

Smell the scent of incense while listening to the chiming bells of Gangaramaya Temple. Or, jazz up Colombo’s nightlife, spiced by nightclubs and casinos that border its bustle. If you’re lucky, head into an exhibition at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) before swaying your head to an opera or play at Nelum Pokuna, which should bring your day to perfection!
